To start playing the Pokémon TCG, you need:

• A 60 card deck: Each player must use an exact 60-card deck containing a mix of Pokémon, Energy, and Trainer cards.
• Damage Counters: Dice or flat counters to track damage done to Pokémon during battle.
• A Coin or Coin-Flip Die: Used for coin flips required by various card attacks and rules.
• Special Condition Markers: Markers for burned or poisoned Pokémon (though dice often work for this too).

For beginners the Pokémon TCG Battle Academy is recommended. Pre-made decks are available too.
