The Phenomenon: What is Mega Evolution?

Introduced in Pokémon X and Y (Generation VI), Mega Evolution is a temporary transformation that certain Pokémon can undergo during battles. Unlike regular evolution, which is permanent, Mega Evolution lasts only for the duration of a battle.

• The Requirements: To trigger a Mega Evolution, a Trainer needs a Key Stone (often worn in a bracelet called a Mega Ring), and the Pokémon must hold its specific Mega Stone (e.g., Lucarionite for Lucario).
• The Bond: Beyond the physical items, lore dictates that a deep emotional bond between the Trainer and the Pokémon is required to achieve this state.
• The Power-Up: Mega Evolved Pokémon experience significantly increased base stats. They may also change their typing and acquire a new Ability, completely altering their battle strategy.
